The Andes mountain range uplift as a vicariant event in the Pimeliinae (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) in southern South America

The Andes mountain range extends over 8500 km along the Pacific coast of South America. Its medium altitude is 3500 m, reaching more than 6000 m at different latitudes. The uplift of the Andes  split arid habitats creating very diverse ecosystems on both sides. The distribution of the Pimeliinae (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) south of parallel 15º South is analysed, where the Andean mountain range separates xeric habitats both eastward and westward. The genera of Pimeliinae show four distribution patterns: endemic taxa east of the Andes, endemic taxa west of the Andes, taxa widely distributed on both sides of the Andes, and taxa inhabiting high altitudes in the Andes. Known phylogenies of genera and species of Pimeliinae are examined in terms of the Andean mountain uplift creating a vicariant event. A biogeographical track exhibited by certain genera of Pimeliinae connecting central Chile and southern Argentina is examined.La vaste étendue des Andes couvre plus que 8500 km le long de la côte pacifique de l’Amérique du sud. L’altitude moyenne est de 3500 m mais elle dépasse plus que 6000 m avec des écosystemes très variés des deux côtés. La distribution des Pimeliinae (Coleoptera : Tenebrionidae) est examinée au sud du 15eme parallèlle où la formation des Andes a séparé des habitats désertiques à la fois vers l’est et vers l’ouest. Les genres de Pimeliinae montrent quatre modèles de distribution : espèces endémiques à l’ouest des Andes ; espèces endémiques à l’est des Andes ; espèces largement répandues les deux côtés des Andes et espèces habitant les hautes altitudes des Andes. La phylogénie connue de certaines espèces et genres est examinée pour événement vicariant à la suite de la formation des montagnes andines. Un chemin biogeographique démontré par quelques genres de Pimeliinae liant le Chile central et l’Argentine du sud est analysé.Fil: Flores, Gustavo Ernesto. Towards a revision of the South American genus Praocis Eschscholtz (Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae), with estimation of the diversity of each subgenus

A review of the subgenera of the South American genus Praocis Eschscholtz (Pimeliinae: Praociini) is presented. Praocis comprises 77 species and 8 subspecies arranged in nine subgenera distributed in arid lands from Central Peru and Bolivia to the Southern part of Patagonia in Chile and Argentina. For each subgenus of Praocis: Praocis Eschscholtz, Mesopraocis Flores & Pizarro-Araya, subgen. n., Anthrasomus Guérin-Méneville, Filotarsus Gay & Solier, Postpraocis Flores & Pizarro-Araya, subgen. n., Hemipraocis Flores & Pizarro-Araya, subgen. n., Orthogonoderes Gay & Solier, Praonoda Flores & Pizarro-Araya, subgen. n., and Praocida Flores & Pizarro-Araya, subgen. n., we present a diagnosis using new and constant characters of adult morphology such as clypeal configuration, length and proportion of antennomeres 9, 10 and 11, arrangement of apical tomentose sensory patches on antennomeres 10 and 11, anterior margin of prosternum, lateral margin of elytron, ventral surface of profemora, and shape of protibiae. An identification key for the nine subgenera of Praocis is presented. Type species are designated for the five new subgenera; for Mesopraocis: Praocis calderana Kulzer, for Postpraocis: Praocis pentachorda Burmeister, for Hemipraocis: Praocis sellata Berg, for Praonoda: Praocis bicarinata Burmeister, for Praocida: Praocis zischkai Kulzer, and for the previously described subgenus Orthogonoderes: Praocis subreticulata Gay & Solier. The current number of species and the estimated number of species to be described are presented. The distribution ranges of the subgenera, including new records from collections and recent expeditions, are given. Dos nuevas especies de Psectrascelis (Coleoptera:Tenebrionidae) del oeste de Argentina

Se describen dos nuevas especies del género Psectrascelis Solier (Pimeliinae: Nycteliini) del oeste de Argentina, P. argentina sp. nov. a gran altitud en la Precordillera de San Juan y P. telteca sp. nov. en la llanura de Mendoza, y se las incluye en la clave mas reciente del género. Systematic revision and cladistic analysis of the Patagonian genus Platesthes (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae)

The genus Platesthes Waterhouse, 1845 (Pimeliinae: Praocini), distributed in the Patagonian steppes in southern Argentina and Chile, is revised. A phylogeny of its 13 species is proposed, based on 48 morphological characters. The cladistic analysis provides one most parsimonious cladogram showing that three unambiguous synapomorphic characters of external morphology and male genitalia support the monophyly of Platesthes. This article includes a redescription of the genus, redescriptions of its species, an identification key, habitus photographs of the most representative species, illustrations of external morphology, genital features and metendosternites, a cladogram and distribution maps. A discussion of the biogeography and status of conservation of Platesthes in the Patagonian steppes and in Central Chile is presented. A new Platesthes species is described: P. neuquensis sp. n. and P. hirtipes Kulzer, 1962 stat. n. is elevated to species status. The systematic position of Geoborus lineatus comb. nov. (ex. Gyriosomus) (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae)

Se resuelve la posición sistemática de Gyriosomus lineatus Guérin-Méneville, 1834. Geoborus costatus Blanchard, 1847 (Pimeliinae: Epitragini) se ubica como sinónimo de Gyriosomus lineatus Guérin-Méneville, 1834 (Pimeliinae: Nycteliini), y se propone como nueva combinación a Geoborus lineatus (Guérin-Méneville, 1834) (Epitragini). Se designa subsecuentemente a Geoborus costatus como especie tipo de Geoborus Blanchard, 1847. Se entregan antecedentes y fotografías del material tipo, y se consignan la distribución y el hábitat de la especie.The systematic placement of Gyriosomus lineatus Guérin-Méneville, 1834 is resolved. Geoborus costatus Blanchard, 1847 (Pimeliinae: Epitragini) is determined to be a junior synonym of Gyriosomus lineatus Guérin-Méneville 1834 (Pimeliinae: Nycteliini) and the new combination Geoborus lineatus (Guérin-Méneville, 1834) (Epitragini) is proposed. Geoborus costatus is subsequently designated the type species for Geoborus Blanchard, 1847. Comments and photographs of the type material are included. Two new species of Emmallodera Blanchard, 1842 (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) from western Argentina

Two new species of the genus Emmallodera Blanchard (Tenebrioninae: Scotobiini) from western Argentina are described, Emmallodera rugosa sp. nov. from the Patagonian steppe and Emmallodera telteca sp. nov. from lowlands in the Mendoza province. Estatus taxonómico de Parapraocis, un nuevo género de Praociini (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Pimeliinae) de Perú

Se describe el nuevo géneroParapraocis (Pimeliinae: Praociini) para ubicar tres especies de la costa norte del Perú previamente incluidas en el géneroPraocis Eschscholtz: Parapraocis vagecostata (Fairmaire, 1902) n. comb. (especie tipo),Parapraocis rossi (Kulzer, 1958) n. comb. y Parapraocis fumaria (Kulzer, 1966) n. comb. Se presentan el diagnóstico, la descripción e ilustraciones de la morfología externa, genitalia masculina y femenina, y fotografías de habitus para dos de sus especies. También se incluye una discusión sobre la designación de este nuevo género, así como homologías en la morfología de los genitales femeninos de Praociini.The new genus Parapraocis (Pimeliinae: Praociini) is described to accommodate three species from the northern Peruvian coast previously placed in the genus Praocis Eschscholtz: Parapraocis vagecostata (Fairmaire, 1902) n. comb. (type species), Parapraocis rossi (Kulzer, 1958) n. comb., and Parapraocis fumaria (Kulzer, 1966) n. comb. Diagnosis, description and illustrations of external morphology, male and female genitalia, and habitus photographs for two of its species are presented. Two new synonymies in the genus Praocis (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae)

Schizaraeus fouquei sp. nov., the first record of Schizaraeus from Peru (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Stenosini)

A new species of Stenosini (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae: Pimeliinae), Schizaraeus fouquei sp. nov. is described from southern Andes of Peru: Apurímac and Cusco regions. Prior to this study, Schizaraeus Kulzer, 1955 was monotypic with one species, S. acuticosta Kulzer, 1955 from Catamarca Province in Argentina.
